DR KATHERINE THOMPSONKatherine works in the area of mental health as a therapist, lecturer, author and researcher. She is passionate about supporting people especially youth with mental health challenges to live their best life and seeks to encourage people in ministry to thrive in their role. She currently divides her time between her work as a Mental Health Social Worker and therapist in private practice, and as a senior lecturer in Mental Health and Wellbeing at Melbourne School of Theology and Eastern College Australia. Katherine has published in the areas of youth mental health, Christ-centred mindfulness, and cross-cultural mission, and the integration of psychology and faith. She is most content when outside in nature connecting to God in quietness through his creation.
MENTAL HEALTH SOCIAL WORKERSKatherine is an accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Clinical Social Worker who is registered to deliver services under Medicare Australia. She has been assessed by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) as having specialist mental health expertise and advanced clinical practice knowledge and experience.
An accredited Mental Health Social Worker is eligible to provide services through the Commonwealth funded Better Access to Mental Health Care and Chronic Diseases Management Program. Like other allied health professions, such as psychologists, Mental Health Social Workers use a range of interventions in helping people with mental health disorders, including but not limited to the following focussed psychological strategies:
