Therapeutic approach
Katherine uses a systems approach, which views at an individual in the context of their social network. Problems are not just individual, but often result from a combination of other events and stressors. This is particularly useful when working with young people and their families. Katherine's main therapeutic approach for mental health treatment is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. This approach teaches Connection the the present, defusion from difficult thoughts, expansion for painful feelings, and emphasises acceptance and using values to direct life choices. It can be applied across a range of issues, and is particularly useful for treating depression and anxiety.
While she specialises in counselling young people, she also welcomes adult clients.
Katherine works with organisations who do cross cultural work in developing countries. She offers psychosocial assessments, training, debriefing and counselling to organisations and their staff.
